Interview Kevin Pratt

The Basics

Who are you? I am a husband, a son, and a brother. As a lawyer, I am a litigator, which is a way of saying I help people and businesses solve their problems.

What do you do? The right thing.

Where did you come from? I am from Charlotte and am happy to practice law in a place I have always called home. I went to St. Gabriel’s, Holy Trinity, and East Meck. I went to college at Elon University where I played varsity baseball and was a co-captain my senior year. I went to law school in Charleston, South Carolina.

How did you get here? By doing things that people told me were not possible.

Why should I hire you? I am accessible, caring, and responsive.  I will do what I say I am going to do when I say I am going to do it. And, I fear losing more than I enjoy winning.

Digging Deeper

Business philosophy? To make your problems my problems.  To care more than you care.  To listen more than I talk.  To respond when appropriate. And, to deliver the best possible outcome as cost effectively as possible.

Proudest moment? Marrying my best friend, Elizabeth.

Biggest regret? Nothing. Regrets are anchors to the past. To me, if you want to be the best person you were made to be, then you owe it to yourself to be thankful for having the opportunity to grow from whatever bad has occurred in your life.

Favorite quote? Bloom where you’re planted. – Saint Francis de Sales

Best quality in business? Humility.

Making it Personal

Family? I have a wife, Elizabeth. We live in Fourth Ward. Our immediate families live in the Charlotte area: my parents in Cotswold, hers in Cornelius.

If I could meet anyone… Pope Francis.

If I could hear any song right now… Any song by Mumford & Sons.

My biggest influence is… Elizabeth.

Three random things about me…

  1. As a kid, I sang in the Charlotte Choir boys where I sang the Canadian National Anthem and our National Anthem at a Montreal Expos game. A lot has changed since then, the Montreal Expos are now the Washington Nationals and the Charlotte Choir Boys are now a part of The Choir School at St. Peter’s in uptown Charlotte.
  2. I have five sisters.
  3. My passion is sports—all sports. For example, before attending law school, I was an assistant baseball coach at the College of Charleston. I draw from the lessons I learned playing and coaching baseball every day in all facets of my life.
