We had the best time serving as a sponsor and walking for inclusion at the 2019 Best Buddies Friendship Walk. The event brought over 550 walkers together and raised more than $46,000. The money raised will fund programs changing the lives of thousands of individuals with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities in North Carolina.
Best Buddies is celebrating its 30th Anniversary and is the world’s largest organization dedicated to ending the social, physical, and economic isolation of the 200 million people with IDD (intellectual and developmental disabilities). The program helps people with IDD form meaningful friendships with their peers, secure successful jobs, live independently, improve public speaking, and feel valued by society.
“Best Buddies is dedicated to creating a more inclusive world using friendship,” shared Tammy Medlock, State Director of Best Buddies North Carolina. “We appreciate businesses like Lincoln Derr that have the same inclusive values as Best Buddies and strive to have mutually beneficial partnerships!”
Lincoln Derr is right in step with the Best Buddies mission. We support inclusion for all and plan to continue building our relationship with Best Buddies North Carolina. As a community, it is important to support businesses that value inclusion. The companies pictured below sponsored this year’s walk. Support these folks if you can. They share our belief in the power of inclusion and friendship.
“I love this cause is just a little bit different from the “standard” diversity platform. I love that the diversity factor for Best Buddies covers all nationalities, all races, all religious affiliations, all genders, and everything in between. I love the message of kindness and acceptance. I love that Best Buddies is teaching our youth about universal goals despite “perceived” superficial difference. I just think it’s a really special group. It touched my heart in a different and very positive way. I was very proud to support Best Buddies,” commented Lincoln Derr Co-Founder Tricia Derr.
