Congratulations to Charles Daye, the Honorable Janice Cole, former legislator H. M. “Mickey” Michaux Jr., Judge Sammie Chess and the late Julius Chambers who were honored at the 4th Annual Legal Legends of Color Awards Reception at the 2019 North Carolina Bar Association (“NCBA”) Annual Meeting.
Lincoln Derr is a proud sponsor of this event in support and recognition of attorneys of color whose legal careers have shaped the law, left lasting impacts on North Carolina and which have contributed immeasurably to each of the honorees’ respective communities.
“The Legal Legends of Color Reception places direct emphasis on our priority as a Bar and Association to embrace diversity and inclusion in the legal profession – at this event we honored diverse members of our Bar and celebrated their accomplishments, together,” commented Lincoln Derr attorney and NCBA Board of Governors member, Gwendolyn W. Lewis.
The Legal Legends of Color Reception has become a highly anticipated event at the NCBA Annual Meeting. The buzz around the official reveal of each year’s recipients has steadily fulfilled the association’s goal to increase engagement and attendance of diverse members of the Bar.
Lincoln Derr attorney, Maria Ortiz reflected on the night and noted that “the Honorees were true Legends who overcame immense challenges to reach the success that they did. Their great strides paved the way for future generations, making them true heroes in this present day.”
We are proud to have supported this event and are excited to share that next year’s Fifth Annual Installment of the Awards Event will be Chaired by our own Gwendolyn Lewis – we look forward to seeing you there.
